Islamabad : Deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan said that those officials would be punished who had implemented President Musharraf’s emergency rule.
President Musharraf proclaimed emergency rule on November 3rd and sacked the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chuadhry and 60 more top judges who refused to show allegiance to him.
“The Supreme Court had restrained all judges from taking new oath soon after the declaration of emergency, but despite it the judges took oath,” Chaudhry told lawyers at the industrial city of Faisalabad in Punjab.
“In the past some of the judges gave verdicts on the directives of dictators but now the time has gone and all the decisions would be taken in accordance with the Constitution,” he said.
He said that all judges sacked by President Musharraf in emergency rule would be restored with the efforts of lawyers, civil society and media persons.
Analysts say that Musharraf dismissed the judges to preempt a verdict about his move to contest presidential elections in army uniform.
President Musharraf had blamed Chaudhry for misuse of power and interfering in affairs of the government.
“I was blamed for interfering in the affairs of executive but I had taken every step within the Constitution but why the high courts judges were sacked,” Chaudhry said amidst anti-Musharraf slogans.
He said now the lawyers, members of the civil society and political parties have to decide as to which type of judiciary they want the final decision lies with the people, he declared.
