Islamabad : The visiting U.S. Senator Russ Feingold and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf discussed bilateral relations, recent political developments and counter terrorism-related issues in Rawalpindi on Monday.
Musharraf underscored the importance of a vibrant Pakistan-U.S. relationship and highlighted the commonality of views between the two countries on a broad range of issues, the News Network International news agency reported.
Musharraf emphasized the need for deepening and broadening bilateral cooperation in all fields of common interest. He also reiterated Pakistan’s firm resolve to fight terrorism and stressed the importance of a comprehensive strategy that combined security, political and socio-economic development means.
Feingold termed Pakistan-U.S. relationship as extremely important and appreciated Pakistan’s pivotal role in fighting terrorism and promotion of regional stability.
Speaking of the importance of a multi-pronged approach, he emphasized the significance of strengthened security along the Pakistan-Afghan border.
