US Congressional delegation discuss ties with Musharraf

Islamabad : A US delegation constituting of two senate members met President Pervez Musharraf and discussed bilateral matters, with special focus on cooperation in the so-called war on terror, officials said on Monday.

US Embassy spokesperson says Senator Carl Levin and Senator Robert Casey are in Islamabad on one-day visit for meeting top echelons of the government and senior Pakistan leadership.

Senator Carl Levin is the chief of armed services committee of US senate and he is placed among the top-ten US influential senators besides he has been opposing US war in Iraq.

The other delegate Senator Robert Casey is the member of foreign affairs relations.

“US senate’s members will be meeting top personalities of the government during the visit here, while their appointments are fixed with the senior political leaders”, said the US Embassy spokesperson.

Pakistani officials said that President Musharraf renewed the country’s commitment to continue policies against terrorism and extremism.

The senators appreciated Pakistan’s anti-terror policies and said the US will continue support to Pakistan.
