Baghdad : A home-made bomb killed one US soldier in Salahadin, north Iraq, raising US fatalities to 4,082 since March 2003.
The US command in Iraq says the blast wounded another two soldiers with no comment on their condition.
Monday’s report confirms the US death toll in May at 17, although April ranked among the most lethal in the past eight months with 52, followed by January (40), March (39) and February (29).
The US ranks Salahadin province, seat of Tikrit and Samarra cities, among the Iraqi provinces with the greatest rebel activity and Iraqi political leaders say the government has little authority.
Police say US ally troops like the Awakening Council or Community outpost in Al Tarmiya neighborhood, were targets of a bomb that killed seven and left 20 wounded.
The bomb was attached to a motorbike parked at the check-point that protected the pro-government faction and five of the dead were Council members and two were policemen, while 15 wounded belong to the faction and five were agents.
The US Army and the Iraqi government armed those groups for law enforcement tasks in Al Anbar, Ninive, Diyala and Baghdad.
