Cairo : The Arab League (AL) established a special committee to undertake recording and collecting evidence of Israeli war crimes and genocides against the Palestinian people in the territories, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported on Tuesday.
The committee includes experts in law led by Palestinian Minister of Justice Ali Khushana, Egyptian Minister of Justice Mamdouh Mohieddin Marai was quoted as saying after meetings of the Arab justice ministers here.
Khushana said confrontation with Israel is not only political, but also legal, terming collection of incriminating evidence against Israel as very important to defend the Palestinian’s rights against Israel’s genocides and war crimes.
The committee will be in charge of collecting evidence on Israel’s crimes within the framework of the international humanitarian law and Geneva Convention, he said.
A report issued on Monday said the Israeli forces have arrested2,700 Palestinians since the beginning of this year.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said on Monday that Israel is on a collision course with Palestinian Islamic Hamas movement, and should the ceasefire continue to remain elusive, the collision could come any time in the next few days.
Egypt has been trying to broker a truce between the Palestinian groups and Israel to end their conflicts, but no tangible results have been reached up to now.
