“Since it is mandatory, we have to comply with the resolution. This is a routine matter,” said an external affairs ministry official, adding that instructions have been given to all relevant ministries.

UNSCR 1803, passed March 3 by a majority of 14 to 1, has called upon all member-nations to exercise “vigilance and restraint” on the movement of individuals or entities providing support for Iran’s proliferation-sensitive nuclear activities through their territories.

This resolution, similar to the resolutions 1737 (in 2006) and 1747 (in 2007), was passed under chapter seven of the UN Charters that makes them mandatory under international law.

The resolution has asked the members to monitor the activities of the Iranian banks, especially Bank Melli and Bank Saderat.

It also says that the states have to inspect cargo to and from Iran of aircraft and vessels operated by Iran Air Cargo and Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line.
