Youth Congress activists clash with police, 15 hurt

Kozhikode : About 15 people, including a policeman, suffered injuries Tuesday when Youth Congress activists clashed with the police at Kozhikode and Kochi in Kerala during the organisation’s marches to demand implementation of a food security programme.

Youth Congress workers were holding the marches to the collectorates in various districts, demanding implementation of the food security programme in the state, when they clashed with the police who tried to block them.

In Kozhikode, the police resorted to a baton charge when the activists tried to force their way into the district collectorate. The police also arrested two activists.

In Kochi, the police used batons and burst stun grenades to disburse the protesters. Five protesters suffered injuries.

Skirmishes between the police and Youth Congress activists were also reported from Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts in the state.
