Washington : A group of US anti-torture activists appeared before justice on Tuesday for staging an unauthorized demonstration demanding the closure of the prison in the naval base of Guantanamo, in southeastern Cuba.
From the start of the proceedings, held in this capital, the activists rejected the presence of defense lawyers, and some of them even wore orange uniforms similar to those used by inmates in Guantanamo.
“We will not exercise our rights as long as our country remains refusing their rights to others,” said Matthew Daloisio, one of the activists.
Many of the accused also used the names of people held in the Pentagon prison.
They face sentences of up to three months for causing harangue and unlawful free speech after their arrest on January 11 outside the Supreme Court of Justice.
