Earlier, state Congress president Suresh Pachouri said, “The constitution provides for reservation for weaker sections of society and Bhargava’s observation at the Brahmin Sabha amounts to disrespect of the constitution. The chief minister should, thus, immediately dismiss him from the Cabinet.”
“Bhargava’s comments, in fact, indicated government’s anti-poor, anti-Dalit and anti-backward classes mindset,” Pachauri told IANS Thursday.
Bhargava, on the other hand, said that his statement has been distorted by Pachouri.
“I did not oppose the reservation to different sections, and did not describe anybody as ‘beggars’. I’m committed to compliance and protection of reservation provided in the constitution,” said Bhargava, adding that he had only said that Brahmins do not need reservation. “These were my personal views and I stand by it.”
