Beirut : Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Fouad Siniora outlined the policies of his government after being assigned by President Michel Suleiman to form the new national unity government.
Earlier, Suleiman received Siniora to inform of the nomination decision which drew backing of a majority of 68 MPs, with the Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri attending.
“I take great pride in working with His Excellency the President and implement the pledges he has made in his oath of office,” Siniora said in a press conference following the meeting Wednesday.
“The government will press ahead with the issues of compensation for the victims of the July 2006 war, the reconstruction process especially in the Nahr Al-Bared area, the internally-displaced people, and enhancing the capabilities of the army and police forces,” he asserted.
Siniora pledged to pursue dialogue and cooperation to solve all differences with the opposition parties.
Meanwhile, he thanked his March 14 bloc which nominated him for leading the new government.
