Thiruvananthapuram : The Kerala government Saturday gave the nod to set up IT parks in Kollam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasargode districts.
Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan told reporters after the weekly cabinet meeting that these IT parks will come under the newly set up IT infrastructure company of the state government.
“We have asked the revenue department to see that they take possession of the land, which should be ranging from a minimum of 25 acres to 100 acres in these five districts. After taking the land, it should be transferred to the IT infrastructure company,” said Achuthanandan.
The government holds 51 percent share and the rest will be given out to private and public companies in the IT infrastructure company, which would build the necessary infrastructure at the proposed sites where the five new IT parks come up.
“We have already decided that we will set up IT parks in each of the 14 districts of the state and these five IT parks are in the first phase,” he added.
This development comes at a time when Kerala registered a record software exports from the state touching Rs.12 billion for the last fiscal.
Currently there are around 35,000 software professionals working at the two IT parks here and at Kochi and the state government plans to expand this to 100,000 IT professionals in the coming years.
