The BJP has fielded Yudhvir Singh from Chandrapur seat in state’s northern region to take on sitting lawmaker Nobel Verma, the joint candidate of the Nationalist Congress Party-Congress combine.

“Singh has mercilessly beaten up a senior BJP cadre, Dr. Vishwal, Friday at Chandrapur assembly segment when the latter allegedly refused to join in poll campaign because Singh described him as an outsider,” a police official told IANS.

He added that Vishwal had broken his left leg.

The police were investigating the matter after some BJP workers lodged a complaint at Chandrapur police station.

The Judeo family belongs to Jashpur district and a majority of BJP cadres of Janjgir district are opposed to Yudhvir Singh since he was made a party nominee Oct 21 to launch his political career from Janjgir district’s Chandrapur seat.

Chhattisgarh goes to poll Nov 14 and 20 to elect a new 90-member state assembly.
