The announcement came from Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki during a telephone call with Turkish President Abdullah Gul, according to an Iraqi government statement on Friday.

During the call, Al-Maliki said that he would send delegations to countries neighbouring Iraq – including Turkey – to present the security agreement after receiving Washington’s reply to the Iraqi proposed amendments.

Al-Maliki also revealed to the Turkish president, the latest developments reached in negotiations between Iraq and the U.S. on the deal.

Separately, both officials stressed the need for both of their authorities to cooperate on measures to tackle terrorist activities carried out by Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) rebels.

According to the statement the Turkish president expressed relief at efforts practiced by Iraqi authorities against the PKK revels.

During its negotiations with the U.S., Iraq had underlined that it did not want the security deal to cause any security problems with neighbouring states.

Iraq had also stressed that it would not allow the U.S. to stage offensives from its lands against neighbouring countries.
