Tehran : Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim said here Sunday that peaceful use of nuclear energy and uranium enrichment are among the rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In a meeting with Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, he expressed pleasure over recent positive reports released by the International Atomic Energy Agency about Iran’s nuclear program and underscored the pivotal role of the entity in reviewing the country’s nuclear case, the secretariat of the council announced on Sunday.
He also hoped that Iran’s nuclear dossier will soon be back on its normal track.
Referring to Iran’s significant role in the region, Amorim further said that Iran’s assistance and role are essential in maintaining stability in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Jalili, for his part, stressed the need to create a balance in the countries’ nuclear rights and obligations and said that upsetting the balance means undermining the agency and ignoring its objectives.
Elaborating on the country’s extensive cooperation with the agency, the top nuclear negotiator also said that Iran’s defense of its nuclear rights amounts to defense of the rights of all member states.
Pointing to the common Iranian and Brazilian stances in various fields, including nuclear disarmament, Jalili described the two countries’ cooperation as effective in promoting NPT and status of the agency.
