Pakistan, China to promote coperation in environment sector

Beijing : Pakistan and China will exchange their experience and expertise, utilizing available technology and other resources for environmental protection in their respective countries.

In this connection, the two sides have already signed an agreement, during President Asif Ali Zardari’s recent visit to China.

Under the agreement, their relevant Ministries and Departments will conduct cooperative activities in Environmental policies and legislation, Urban environmental protection, including pollution control, Biodiversity protection and nature conservation and Environmental impact assessment.

Bilateral cooperation will cover areas like promotion of industrial environmental, coordination of the position on global environmental issues, Waste Management and any other areas as mutually agreed upon.

The pact also envisages Pakistan and China to conduct exchange of relevant environmental information and documentation, exchange of visits by officials delegations, experts and scholars, jointly holding seminars attended by scholars, experts and others relevant officials, facilitate and encourage the sharing of best practices, experiences and achievements in environmental field and cooperation in any other field of mutual interest.

To implement the deal, the two sides will encourage environmental protection agencies, enterprises, municipalities as well as research institutions to establish and develop contacts with each other in the fields of environmental protection and sustainable development.

It has also been agreed that both Pakistan and China will designate a coordinator who is of Director General Level for the implementation of this agreement.

The coordinators from both the countries shall be responsible to sum up the work, make future work plan, review and facilitate ongoing collaboration.

The meeting between the coordinators will take place alternately in both Pakistan and China.
