Maoists fire shots at Chhattisgarh BJP MP’s chopper

Raipur : Suspected Maoist guerrillas fired three shots Tuesday apparently targeting a chopper in which a parliamentarian of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party was travelling for an election campaign, the Chhattisgarh police said.

However, the guerrillas missed the intended target, the police said.

The incident took place in Kanker district’s thick forested interiors, Koilibera in Antagarh assembly constituency, some 250 km south of the capital Raipur.

“Maoists fired three shots when the chopper took off from a stadium at Kolibera. The chopper was carrying three persons – all BJP leaders, including party MP Sohan Potai,” sources at police headquarters told IANS.

The BJP leaders were in the area to address a public meeting in favour of a party candidate, Vikram Usendi, contesting from Antagarh segment that goes to polls Nov 14 along with other 39 seats of the state.
