At least 79 dead or missing in northern, central Vietnam by flood

Hanoi : At least 79 people were dead or missing in the northern and central flood areas in Vietnam, The Vietnam News Agency reported on Wednesday, citing the preliminary statistics from the Central Steering Committee for Flood Control and Prevention.

The victims included 22 in Hanoi, which has suffered the most. The central provinces of Ha Tinh and Nghe An reported 17 and nine deaths respectively.

Measures have been promptly taken to strengthen dyke systems and dams so as to timely cope with unexpected situation, said Cao Duc Phat, head of the Central Steering Committee for Flood Control and Prevention.

More heavy rain was forecast to start from Nov. 6 to Nov. 8 with the peak of 300 millimeters in some areas in Vietnam, warned by the National Center for Hydrometeorology Forecast.
