Delhi gets first innings points against Punjab

New Delhi : Yuvraj Singh was at last among runs, albeit a quick-fire 38, on a meaningless last day of the Ranji Trophy Super Division match between Punjab and Delhi here at the Roshanara Club ground Thursday. The match expectedly ended in a draw.

Delhi gained three points for taking the first innings lead while Punjab settled for one point.

Resuming at the overnight 434 for eight, Delhi carried on batting till the innings ended at 519. Chetanya Nanda showed his prowess with the bat scoring a fifty and had a major share of his 57-run last-wicket partnership with Amit Bhandari.

Medium-pacer Gagandeep Singh returned the best figures among the Punjab bowlers, three for 97.

To their credit, Punjab bowlers bowled with vigour, unusually bowling as many as 25 overs in the first hour.

Going in for their second innings 49 minutes before lunch, Punjab batsmen played for time and skipper Yuvraj Singh utilised the opportunity to help himself to quick runs stroking freely. He hit leg-spinner Nanda and Rajat Bhatia into the straight field for two huge sixes. He got all his runs in boundaries, hitting six fours besides the two sixes before being bowled by Nanda.
