A summit was held in Kenya to analyze the Congolese conflict and attendants urged an immediate ceasefire in North Kivu, the opening of a humanitarian row, the abidance by agreements signed between Congo and neighboring Rwanda, and the reinforcement of the UN mission to Congo.

The summit was attended by presidents of Congo and Rwanda Joseph Kabila and Paul Kagama, respectively, who were accusing one another of inciting armed clashes between government forces and the National Congress for the People’s Defense.

Other figures attending the summit were the head of the African Union and President of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete and the presidents of Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Congo-Brazaville, Mwai Kibaki, Yoweri Museveni, Pierre Nkurunzizar and Denis Sassou, respectively.

Violence in the area worsened the situation of Congolese citizens who are unable to receive humanitarian help given by UN organizations.
