Islamabad : Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman has condemned the US missile attack in North Waziristan that killed 10 people on Friday. “The series of unilateral actions against targets on Pakistan’s soil is a self defeating strategy.
The US Administration’s reluctance to consider the repercussions of such operations is damaging the whole purpose of global efforts to combat terrorism,” said the Federal Information Minister commenting on the reports of the fresh US attacks on the FATA region, according to a press release issued here.
Ms Sherry Rehman informed the media that the issue of the US unilateral operations is being taken up at the highest level, with both the President and the Prime Minister demanding the US administration to halt its military actions on Pakistan’s soil.
“All our international allies have expressed their reservation over the one sided policy pursued by the US. Not only is it counter productive in short and long term, it is also reversing the gains made during the last seven years of the global efforts to fight terrorism,” she said.
The Federal Information Minister said that Pakistan’s significance as a partner in international counter terrorism efforts underscores the need for consideration of its nation’s sensitivities on important issues.
“The continued violation of our territorial integrity empowers non state actors enabling them to sell it as an argument against the state that has been engaged on multiple levels for combating terrorism,” she said.
Ms Rehman said that with new US Administration in place, there is need for re examination of strategies pursued for counter terrorism. “The global leadership needs to review the policy followed in the last seven years. There has been a clear shift in the dynamics that governed our anti terrorism strategy post 9/11, and we must adopt our line of action accordingly.”
