Kannur (Kerala) : Kerala, a popular destination for foreign tourists, started its annual tourism season on a wrong note with an allegedly drunken man molesting a Spanish woman. He has been arrested.
Superintendent of Police S. Sreejith said the incident took place Saturday when the woman was walking towards the Payamabalam beach near here.
The accused is an employee of the Defence Security Corps, which oversees security at military installations.
“The accused was believed to be in an inebriated state when he charged at the tourist. Some people who saw it happen came to her rescue,” Sreejith told IANS.
“The Spanish tourist, in her mid-30s, has not registered a complaint. She quickly left the place.
“The police took suo moto action and registered a case. The accused has been arrested,” the official added.
The peak tourist season in Kerala usually starts in the first week of November and continues till March.
