A special operations group of the Noida Police nabbed Anil Yadav Saturday night and recovered two single-barrel guns, five double-barrel guns, two pistols, 40 live cartridges and 22 fake seals of the licencing authorities.

Senior Superintendent of Police R.K. Chaturvedi said: “Yadav made arms licenses by using fake stamps of senior officers posted at different places. We have seized fake stamps of district magistrates of Ferozpur, Jaisalmer, Ferozabad, Mainpuri, Udham Singh Nagar and Delhi. His gang may have many more such fake seals.”

“He also had the fake stamps of Delhi commissioner of police (licensing), Punjab home secretary and several Rajasthan government offices. Various sensitive documents were also found with Yadav,” Chaturvedi said.

Yadav operated through his network of touts at district headquarters and other government departments. They would woo people on the promise of getting them a cheap, quick and foolproof arms license.

Many fell into their trap and paid money, not knowing that their licenses would be fake, a police source said.

“Twenty-two fake licenses and several blank arms license forms have also been seized from him. The exact number of licenses arranged by him is not known. Yadav normally used to charge anything between Rs.10,000-25,000 for a license,” the district police chief said.

The police suspect that Yadav has issued around 150 fake licenses till now.

The police have also arrested seven people, who were the beneficiaries of Yadav’s scam and were working with various security agencies in Noida, Mathura, Ferozabad, Shikohabad and Ferozpur.

Meanwhile, Chaturvedi said that a decision to review arms licenses in the district would be taken after consultation with the district magistrate.
