New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Tuesday sought a response from the Gujarat government on a petition filed by suspected terrorists allegedly involved in serial blasts, challenging a magistrate’s order to grant their custody to the police from that state for investigations into terror attacks in Ahmedabad.
Justice Kailash Gambhir asked the state police to file a reply by Dec 11.
In their petition, Shakeel and other accused alleged that Delhi Police had earlier been obtaining their remand illegally and last month they were handed over to the Gujarat police.
Their counsel submitted before the court that Delhi Police had filed five different cases against the accused and illegally obtained separate remand of 15 days to interrogate them.
The suspects – Mohammed Saif, Zeeshan Ahmad, Mohammed Shakeel, Zia-ur-Rehman and Saquib Nissar – were handed over to the Gujarat police after the latter moved an application before a Metropolitan Magistrate seeking their transit remand to take them to Ahmedabad for probing their role in the July 26 blasts, which claimed 56 lives.
They have been accused of involvement in the Sep 13 serial bombings in New Delhi that claimed 26 lives.
