Panaji, India : Investigations into charges of rape of a minor German girl by the son of a high profile Goan minister will continue despite her mother telling the police she was dropping the charge, a top police official said.
“Once an FIR is lodged and police takes cognisance of it, the investigation will proceed,” Bosco George, SP Goa said on Monday.
George said there is no such thing as withdrawal of a complaint since investigation will continue and will go to the logical end.
Fearing her 14-year-old daughter may become ‘Scarlette-II’, the German woman said on Sunday they were “crushed under the weight of the rich and mighty” and life became “hell” prompting them to drop the rape charge against state Education Minister Atanasio Monserratte’s son Rohit.
Rohit was also granted conditional bail by the Goa Children’s Court on Monday.
“If we find there is sufficient evidence against the accused we will file a charge-sheet, if we don’t have sufficient evidence, we will still file a report before the court,” George said, adding that “whatever she(mother) has to say she has to say in the court.”
George said even if the mother wants to withdraw the charge investigation will continue and charges will be probed.
Rebutting the charge by the German woman that the Indian system was not being fair, George said “Indian system is fair to everybody. This is our system and if you are not happy with the system how can we be responsible for it.”
