Over 2,500 leave for Pakistan for ‘Gurpurab’

Amritsar : More than 2,500 devotees Tuesday left here for Nankana Sahib in Pakistan to take part in the ‘Gurpurab’ (birth anniversary) celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism.

The main celebrations will take place Nov 13 at Nankana Sahib, now in Pakistan, the birth place of the guru.

The devotees, comprising of groups led by Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and other Sikh religious organisations, left by three special trains from the Attari railway station, 30 km from here.

The devotees are expected to return after one week.

Guru Nanak Dev was born in 1469 at Nankana Sahib.
