Ramallah : President of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Mahmoud Abbas and leading politicians in the Fatah political party have criticized rival party Hamas for disrupting the future of the Palestinian dialogue meetings due to be held in Cairo.
Abbas said that the PNA was committed to a Yemeni initiative adopted in the 2008 Damascus Arab Summit as well as the Egyptian proposal for dialogue and ending the state of conflict in Gaza.
He was speaking at a ceremony here Tuesday held to mark the fourth anniversary of the death of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.
Hamas earlier prevented a parade march in honour of the late Palestinian leader, an incident that sparked outrage from Abbas.
“They (Hamas) are afraid of an unarmed people,” he told the gathering.
“The PNA does not operate under the influence of the US or the Israeli veto as some claim, and it does not accept what conflicts with the interests of the Palestinian people.”
“There is only one authority (PNA), what is happening in Gaza has no legitimacy. Whoever seeks legality does not carry out a rebellion,” he further said regarding Hamas.
