President arrives in Bangalore on two-day visit

Bangalore : President Pratibha Patil arrived here late Tuesday on a two-day visit to Karnataka.

Governor Rameshwar Thakur, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and top officials received her at the state-run HAL airport in the city. She was escorted to the Raj Bhavan under tight security.

As the supreme commander of defence services, Patil will present the President’s Standard to 59 Squadron and the President’s Colours to the Air Force Technical College of the Indian Air Force (IAF) Wednesday.

“The 59 squadron ‘Hornbills’ is a logistic air support transport squadron based at Guwahati in Assam. The standard or colour is a ceremonial flag associated with a particular unit, squadron or establishment,” the IAF said in a statement here.

The President’s standard or colours is a honour bestowed in recognition of exceptional service rendered by a unit to the nation in war and in peace.
