Caracas : The head of Venezuela’s joint strategic command, General Jesus Gonzalez, has said the upcoming joint naval manoeuvres with Russia in the Caribbean should not worry neighbouring countries.
“There is no reason for anyone to worry, absolutely not,” EFE Wednesday quoted Gonzalez as saying in an interview.
Caracas’ relations with neighbouring countries such as Colombia were “very good”, he said and ruled possibilities that the exercises might put at risk Venezuela’s foreign relations.
The Russian squadron comprising nuclear-powered cruiser Piotr Veliki, destroyer Admiral Chabanenko, a tanker and another support vessel would arrive at the end of the month.
He added that the naval manoeuvres in Venezuela’s territorial waters in the Caribbean should last “no more than a week.”
“This is an historic, transcendent event that is aimed at multipolarity,” he said, adding that the war games “without doubt, should attract the attention of many countries in the region.”
