Pontianak (West Kalimantan) : Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) grouped in the People’s Struggle Front (FPR) reject the ongoing Summit of Group of 20 (G-20) in Washington DC because they believe the group will not be able to overcome the current global financial and economic crises, ANTARA quoted their spokesman as saying.
FPR Coordinator Rudi HB Daman in a press statement here on Saturday said the United States which initiated the G-20 Summit had a long record of failures in dealing with global financial crises.
The US efforts both through domestic and regional measures such as WTO’s Doha Round and the G-8 negotiations in Japan last July all failed, he said.
The economic and financial crises even got worse after September 2008, he said.
The NGOs also believed that the G-20 had no plan to increase workers’ salaries in order to improve the purchasing power of the common people.
Besides, there was no plan to stop the ‘imperialistic’ expansion and monopoly of land and exploitation of natural resources in the interest of billions of rural people, the statement said.
To coincide with the G-20 Summit, FPR planned to organize rallies in Jakarta, Medan (North Sumatra), Surabaya (East Java), Bali, and Makassar (South Sulawesi).
