By DPA,
Paris : A lawmaker in the French National Assembly Monday shot to death his mistress before killing himself, a spokeswoman at police headquarters in the eastern city of Metz said.
Jean-Marie Demange killed the mother of two with a hunting rifle in the house they shared in Thionville, then placed the barrel of the weapon against his own temple and pulled the trigger.
According to French media reports, the incident occurred after the woman – who was not identified – threatened to leave the 65-year-old Demange.
Demange, who was a member of President Nicolas Sarkozy’s UMP party, was mayor of Thionville from 1995 until March of this year, when he lost re-election to the post by a few dozen votes.
