New Delhi : Co-founders of the Non-Aligned Movement Cuba and India decided on Tuesday to turn their links into a strategic partnership by signing five important agreements on the sidelines of the visit of President Hosni Mubarak.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met Mubarak today, back in New Delhi after 25 years, with the objective of laying the foundations for “a strong strategic partnership.”
Both presided over the signing of an extradition treaty, an agreement on the use of outer space, and others in the fields of trade and technical cooperation.
They also signed a protocol for the abolition of visa requirements for diplomatic, official and special passport holders, as well as an agreement to broaden collaboration in health.
Mubarak and Sing described their meeting as fruitful, with an agenda featuring bilateral, regional and global issues, including a joint struggle against terrorism.
They also discussed the global financial crisis and Middle East peace.
At a press conference, Singh said Mubarak’s visit opens a new chapter in bilateral links, adjusting them to current reality.
Mubarak called to join hands against terrorism, and stressed the need for developed and developing countries to carry out joint efforts to change international economic order to avoid another crisis like the present one.
