Kabul : A total of 11 civilians have been killed in two explosions in Afghan provinces this week, local media said on Tuesday.
A roadside bomb in the western province of Farah, near the border with Iran, killed eight civilians on Tuesday, the Tolo TV channel reported.
Another three civilians died and eight others were injured in the southern province of Kandahar on Monday when a bomb went off in a small shop, local officials said.
And in a separate incident a suicide bomber detonated a bomb outside a government building in Kandahar killing two soldiers and a civilian on Monday, a spokesman for the provincial governor, Zalmai Ayubi, said.
Also on Monday, six Afghan soldiers were killed and five others injured in a gun battle with
Taliban insurgents in the Bala Buluk district of the Farah province, a military commander, Ahmad Sayar said.
The Taliban, ousted from power after a U.S.-led military operation in 2001, has stepped up its activities over the past year with an increase in suicide bombings and insurgent attacks which have particularly affected the south and east of the country.
