This is the first time Raj Thackeray met his uncle after he split from the Shiv Sena to launch the MNS almost three years ago.

MNS spokesman Shirish Parker told IANS shortly after the meeting that “it was purely a personal visit” but declined to elaborate further.

A party official said that Raj Thackeray drove down from his Shivaji Park residence to ‘Matoshree’ – Bal Thackeray’s residence in Bandra – at around 1 p.m. and spent nearly 90 minutes with his uncle.

Later, interacting with mediapersons at his home, Raj Thackeray said that the meeting took place in a very “cordial and informal manner”.

Raj Thackeray’s cousin Udhav, Bal Thackeray’s son, was also present at the meet and the MNS leader returned a book of cartoons that he had borrowed from his uncle long ago.

He said that there was “no political discussion of any nature” and that they only chatted about personal and family matters.

Bal Thackeray, 83, has been keeping uncertain health for sometime now and he had reportedly taken ill Saturday night.
