According to the letter, sent on the directive of President Bashar al-Assad, Israel has continued to practise the policy of aggression, and forcing the Palestinianse to suffer from hunger in Gaza, in a dangerous violation of international law, agreements and principles.

“In the light of the growing human tragedy in Gaza due to the Israeli unjust siege, I was empowered by President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Bashar al-Assad , in his capacity as President of the Arab Summit , to write to you so that the international organisation will shoulder its responsibility for immediate halting of the Israeli immoral, and inhuman practices that constitute a flagrant violation of the international law and principles,” al-Moallem said in the letter.

The letter indicated that the Israeli-imposed siege on Gaza and complete closure of all crossings have led to dangerous deterioration in various walks of life in Gaza, worsening human situation, and growing suffering of the Palestinians due to the collective punishment such as electricity shortage, and preventing the Palestinians from access to fuel, and potable water, spreading poverty, hunger and unemployment.

The letter added that the life of the Palestinians in Gaza is in danger due to this siege and the hospitals are using candles and there is a sharp shortage of foodstuffs and fuel, and consequently the lives of hundreds of patients in Gaza , particularly children, have become endangered and the number of victims so far is 260 including 57 children.

The letter said that in spite of the efforts and repeated appeals of the UN organisation to bring these practices to a halt, Israel has not responded to them so far.

The letter concluded by expressing hope that an immediate move by the international organisation to deal with such a human catastrophe which is no less than other human catastrophes for which the UN has acted on, to put pressure on Israel to open the crossings immediately and to allow medical and foodstuffs and fuel to enter Gaza, so that more than 1.5 million Palestinians will have access to them.
