These would include 18,000 Home Guards. The police have also taken special steps to maintain peace at 40 “hyper-sensitive” and 226 “sensitive” booths — official euphemism for balloting centres that could see violence.

Polling would take place in 69 of the total 70 constituencies at 10,985 polling booths.

Polling in Rajinder Nagar has been postponed to Dec 13 following the death of Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Puran Chand Yogi.

“Besides 32,679 Delhi police personnel, we will deploy over 2,000 paramilitary personnel and 18,000 Home Guards from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnal Singh told reporters here.

The campaigning for the elections ended 5 p.m. Thursday. The police have arrested 13 people for possessing illegal arms.

“The police also seized 103 vehicles and 28 loudspeakers for violation of the model code of conduct. A total of 735 people were arrested for defacing public property. Another 15,303 hoardings, banners, posters and wall writings have been seized and removed,” Singh said.
