“We require a strong anti-terror law in India. But instead of formulating such a law, the government is still continuing the debate on the issue,” Shourie said at an interactive session here organised by industry association FICCI.

Referring to the death of policemen and Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare in the attack, he said: “We require a strong leadership and a good government to fight against such attacks. What’s happening in Mumbai is completely outrageous.”

Shourie, who was on a visit to Kolkata, was to deliver a speech on ‘Global Financial Meltdown: Implications for India’.

“It’s very difficult to focus on the economic meltdown, especially during the time when violent terror attacks are taking place in Mumbai,” he said. “Whatever was happening in the economy is exactly what is happening in Mumbai right now.”
