According to the statement, the incident occurred in Lashkar Gah district in Afghanistan’s southern province of Helmand on Saturday.

ISAF soldiers fired in self-defense at the vehicle which failed to stop in the light of instruction, then they fired directly at the vehicle again forcing it stopped, the statement said.

One of the passengers died of wounds, who was identified a member of Afghan National Police (ANP), it added. “This matter is under investigation.”

This incident came just two days after a similar accident that American troops sparked a riot by ramming a packed minibus off the road, allegedly killing one civilian in the Afghan capital Kabul.

Spiraling conflicts and insurgency have claimed the lives of around 5,000 people with some 2,000 civilians so far this year in strife-torn Afghanistan.
