The Maoist was killed after a gun battle between the security forces and the rebels in Bijapur district of the Bastar region, some 500 km south of capital Raipur.

“The combing team challenged a group of armed Maoists and a tribal commander was killed after a brief gun battle while about a dozen of his aides managed to escape into the nearby forests,” District Superintendent of Police Ankit Garg told IANS.
