Calm prevails in Daur village of West Bengal

Kolkata: Communal elements tried to inflame passions in Daur village of Deenajpur district of West Bengal on October 6th. A timely intervention by the local police and patience by Muslims prevented the tense situation turning violent.

A Durga Puja tent was found to have cow meat on October 6th in this village and soon the communal elements tried to take advantage of this situation. They raised anti-Muslim slogans but the police immediately rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.

A short skirmish took place between the rioters and police. District Magistrate and Sub Divisional Officer injured in the clash.

Now West Bengal police is claiming that situation is under control.

Talking to TwoCircles.net from West Bengal Siddiqullah Chowdhury of Milli Ittehad Parishad alleged that Hindutva outfits were behind this episode to inflame communal passions with an eye towards the coming Lok Sabha elections. “Muslims of the area presented admirable patience and did not take any step in retaliation” to the anti-Muslim slogan shouting, said Chowdhary.

He also added that now the situation is completely under control. The administration has arranged very heavy security arrangement to avoid any communal tension. In sensitive areas it has deployed paramilitary forces.

He further said that these outfits are continuously trying to inflame the situation.
