Ankara : Turkish police arrested three suspects on Thursday for their alleged involvement in an attack against a police cadet bus in the southwestern province of Diyarbakir, killing four people and wounding another 14.
According to police sources quoted by local TV, a fourth person, apparently the leader of the attackers, remains in hiding somewhere in the city.
On Wednesday, the group fired their weapons at a Gaffar Okkan police academy bus as it travelled in the Azizive district.
The perpetrators are allegedly linked to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which has been fighting for independence for about 12 million Kurds since 1984.
The attack coincided with the announcement by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the possibility to create a security area in US-occupied northern Iraq, where alleged PKK camps have been set up.
In February, Turkish troops launched a big ground offensive against alleged PKK positions.
