Addressing an Eid Milan program held on October 8 at JIH headquarters in Jamia Nagar, Maulana Umari said: “Though Sachar Committee was a positive step, there has been no concrete action on the report of the committee.” He further said Muslims are mere disillusioned and the most urgent problem for them is their security. This grievance must be addressed honestly, he demanded.

The JIH chief deplored the anti-minority violence in the country, particularly in Orissa, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Assam. He expressed concern over the fact that minorities were facing aggression and injustice in many states.

“Such a large segment of population cannot be treated as ‘aliens’ and in the best interest of the country, a fair deal for the minorities is essential,” he said adding that there is a widespread feeling of insecurity among minorities and it must be removed and they should get justice.

Talking about the role of the media he said: “The media should act like a mirror and portray the reality but unfortunately it is indulged in anti-Muslim propaganda and presenting a distorted image of Islam.” He appealed to the media to play a responsible role and constructive role.
