The league was marking, in a statement, the 2008 Arab Child Day with a theme: “Developing Creativity of the Arab Child.”

Celebrating the Arab Child day this year is taking place at a time that many Arab countries have made long strides in the improvement of conditions of childhood, said the league.

“Death rate of infants and children below five years old has declined along with malnutrition rates, and the rate of accepting basic education has increased,” it said in the statement.

Many Arab countries, it added, have approved legislations, policies and strategies to improve child’s rights.

But more work need to be done to improve educational institutions to bring about creative children, said the Arab League.

The Arab League called on the Arab countries to improve the development policies to be more focused on children.
