In a meeting with Nicolas Kerlatis, the new Greek ambassador to Iran on Saturday, Ali Akbar Ashari evaluated the two countries’ ties as excellent and said given the history of the relations, further development can be brought about in the cultural and scientific fields.

He pointed out that despite a lapse of hundreds of years, the works of famous Iranian and Greek scientists such Plato, Socrates, Avicenna and Kharazami are still acclaimed by international scientists.

Referring to the era of translation in Iran following the advent of Islam, he described it as a good example of dialogue among civilizations.

Greedlidis, for his part, said that bilateral relations are deep and historical.

The two nations have numerous literal, civilizational
commonalities, he said, noting that during his mission in Iran, he will try to strengthen the age-old ties.

Describing poetry and theosophy as the common heritage of the two nations, he also proposed that Iran’s National Library start translation of poems by the both countries’ poets.

“Visiting Museum of Manuscript Books is a kind of religious experience for me,” he noted.

Prior to the meeting, the ambassador and his entourage inspected various sections of Iran’s National Library.
