Cairo : Arab justice ministers, in an extraordinary meeting here, have voiced solidarity with Sudan against any attempt targeting its sovereignty, unity and stability, as well as rejecting bids to undermine the immunity of Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir.
At the conclusion Sunday of the meeting, chaired by Kuwait Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Hussein Al-Huraiti, the ministers said the International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor’s arrest warrant against Al-Bashir should be channelled through Sudanese legislation.
The meeting was held at Sudan’s request to discuss the arrest warrant.
The arrest warrant, said the ministers in a final communique, has no legal basis nor realistic arguments.
They reject any attempt to politicize principles of the international law coupled with double standards.
The Arab ministers expressed dissatisfaction over the way the arrest warrant was dealt by the media.
The Sudanese minister of justice informed the ministers about his government’s legal and legislative measures vis-a-vis the ICC issue.
The Arab justice ministers backed Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa’s endeavours to try to tackle the dispute between the ICC and the Sudanese government.
They called on Moussa to continue his good offices to bring about peace and social justice in the Sudanese troubled province of Darfur.
