EU FMS meet to prepare for EU summit

Luxembourg : European Union foreign ministers began a meeting here Monday to be dominated by preparations for the summit of EU leaders in Brussels on Wednesday and Thursday. The EU summit in Brussels will focuss on the current economic and financial crisis. The ministers are also expected to discuss relations with Russia and Belarus as well as developments in Zimbabwe, Uzbekistan and Moldova .

With the EU observer mission now deployed in Georgia, ministers will review the political situation in relation with the discussions beginning on 15 October in Geneva and prepare the Georgia Donors’ Conference in Brussels on 22 October.

A troika meeting between the EU and the Belarus Minister for foreign affairs Sergei Martynov will review the relations between Brussels and Belarus.

Also on the agenda is the EU-Morocco Association Council which will sign an agreement to give offer Morocco stronger links to the EU under a special “advanced status.”
