The negotiator, Saeb Erekat, said the escalation over the past couple of days resulted in the death of three people in separate incidents across the West Bank where the Israeli army carries out daily raids.

The U.S. administration, which sponsors peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), “should oblige Israel to abide by its obligations under the first phase of the Road Map,” Erekat said, referring to a U.S.-backed peace plan which envisions a Palestinian statehood alongside Israel.

Erekat also said that Israel must be forced to reinforce a ceasefire in the West Bank and extend an Egyptian-brokered lull in the Gaza Strip.

Egypt brokered the six-month ceasefire to ease the sanctions Israel imposed on the Gaza Strip in a bid to isolate Hamas. The Gaza ceasefire expires in December.

Erekat cautioned Israel against the continuation of Gaza closure, saying the military escalation in the West Bank will bring more violence and bloodshed.
