Kabul : A suicide bomber blew up his explosives-packed car next to a convoy of NATO-led peacekeeping force in western Afghanistan’s Herat province Saturday, wounding three soldiers, the police said.
The bomber detonated the explosive device in his car close to a convoy of Italian soldiers outside the Herat airport, provincial police spokesman Rauf Ahmad told reporters, adding that three troopers were slightly injured in the blast.
No officials from NATO and the Italian military were immediately available for comment.
Meanwhile, Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, the purported Taliban spokesman, claimed a Taliban suicide squad member carried out the attack killing eight soldiers on the spot.
Kidnapping for ransom by militants and criminal gangs are frequent in Herat, a centre of economic activities.
