Mohali (Punjab) : India’s fast bowling spearhead Zaheer Khan has been charged by Match Referee Chris Broad for his send-off to Australian opener Matthew Hayden during the second innings on the fourth day of the second Test match at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium.
The incident happened Monday and Hayden complained to square-leg umpire Rudi Koertzen when he left the ground after being lbw to Harbhajan Singh in the over before lunch. Hayden’s wicket triggered a collapse as Australia were reduced to 58 for 5 shortly after the break.
Zaheer has been charged with a Level 2 offence for conduct contrary to the spirit of the game.
The penalty for such an offence, according to International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of conduct, can be a fine equal to 50 percent to 100 percent of the match fee or a one-Test or two-ODI ban.
Australia lost the test match on the final day Tuesday after they were bowled out for 195 in the second innings and fell 320 runs short of the victory target of 516.
