Violence in Bihar leads to cancellation of several trains

New Delhi : Large-scale violence in Bihar following assault on candidates for Railway Recruitment Board exam in Maharashtra state resulted in cancellation of at least ten East-bound trains from here on Wednesday.

The cancelled trains included the Rajdhanis to Howrah, Sealdah, Rajendra Nagar (Patna) and Bhubaneswar and the Garib Rath Express to Patna.

Several other trains were short terminated at various stations in Uttar Pradesh, said a Northern Railway spokesperson.

The New Delhi-Guwahati Rajdhani Express had to be diverted via Kanpur, Lucknow, Varanasi and Chhapra as protesters squatted on rail tracks in Bihar and torched several trains.

The spokesperson said that the Delhi-Hatia Express, Delhi-Sealdah Lal Quila Express, New Delhi-Puri Puroshattam Express and New Delhi-Guwahati Purvottar Sampark Kranti Express were among the other trains that were also cancelled for the day.

Among the short-terminated trains, Amritsar-Howrah, Dehradun-Howrah and Ferozepur-Dhanbad Expresses were terminated at Varanasi and Sealdah-Jammu Tawi Express was terminated at Lucknow.

On the other hand, the Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Rajendra Nagar Patna Jan Sadharan Express was resheduled and left from here at 7.30 pm.
