Chhattisgarh parties complain to Election Commission against BJP

Raipur : The Congress and several smaller political parties in Chhattisgarh complained to the chief election commissioner (CEC) Friday that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is misusing government machinery to try and win over voters.

The CEC N. Gopalaswami and the two election commissioners – Navin Chawla and S.Y. Qureshi – held meetings with the political parties after calling on Governor E.S.L Narasimhan.

The officials were on a trip to the Maoist-insurgency hit state to preside over a high-level meeting to ensure arrangements for a fair and peaceful assembly polls scheduled in two phases – Nov 14 and 20 for the 90 assembly seats.

The main opposition party Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) complained that the BJP leaders, specially the ministers, were misusing government machinery and influencing officers for electoral gains.
